Fitting A Foot

Foot Measurements And Fitting

In order to create patterns for shoes, measurements need to be made. Accuracy is key, as explained earlier, to save money, time, and for mobility and comfort.

No.1 Using the underneath of the last, measure in mm the length of the foot (from the centre of the heel to the highest point of the big toe).

No.2 With the last upright, measure the ball girth circumference (across the Metatarsus).

No.3 Measure the instep circumference (across the Tarsus).

No.4 The longheel measurement is otherwise known as the heel girth, as below. 

The shortheel measurement and ankle girth will only need to be accounted for when making a boot, shoes with ankle straps, or anything above the top line of shoes.
